As songwriters, all we get are between three and five minutes to capture an audience's attention when sharing our stories. Some artists are gifted in such a way that they can tell you about a whole lifetime in one song. But I think the best stories are told when a songwriter takes a magnifying glass, focuses on a tiny slice of someone's day and draws you right into that moment, living it with them, for no other reason than because it was a story worth telling. Now that's art in it's purest form. When music uses the writer to fulfil its purpose, instead of the other way round, true magic happens. And that's what I think about every time I write a song...
